Classes

I offer a range of jewellery making classes from beginners to experienced practitioners, including specialized jewellery-making techniques. I can also provide individual teaching for you to work at your own pace on a project of your choice. Specialised workshops will be offered periodically or can be conducted on request. Tutored and untutored bench space is available for rent. 

I trained in Germany in traditional metalworking techniques four decades ago. My skills and experience cover a large number of techniques which I am happy to share with you.

Earring / Pendant Making

Earring / Pendant making: 1day - 6 hours 

Design and make your own earrings or pendant. (Beginners)

During this one day course I will teach you the basics of jewellery making to develop and a make pair of earrings or a pendant. The class size will be limited to ensure everyone gets assistance and one-on-one time.

I will guide you through the steps of designing and then making your own special piece using techniques such as saw-piercing, annealing, hammering, forming, texturing, filing, sanding and polishing.

You will make at least one pair of earrings with handmade hooks or a pendant with a suspension system.

All tools, materials and consumables are supplied and include copper, brass and aluminium. If you would like to use silver for your piece I have supplies available for approximately $2.50 per gram.

Introduction to Jewellery Making

7 weeks (Beginners)

Design and make your own jewellery using traditional jewellery making skills

This course is an introduction to jewellery making for those who have no experience or a refresher for others who would like brush up and extend on their skills. The class size is limited to ensure everyone gets assistance and one-on-one time. 

MORE INFORMATION:

You will be guided through the steps of designing and making earrings or a pendant with pierced out designs, measuring and sizing a ring and making a pendant with a bezel set round cabochon stone. 

The techniques you will learn include: 

  • design transfer and basic design principles 
  • copper colouring
  • traditional and contemporary techniques
  • saw piercing, filing, drilling and papering
  • polishing, alternative surface finishes, decorative finishes 
  • hammering and stamping techniques
  • surface texturing techniques and connections
  • soldering

All tools and basic consumables will be supplied (copper/ brass wire and sheet). If you would like to use silver, you can either buy and bring your own. I will have silver available for purchase for approximately $2.50 per gram.

Intermediate Jewellery Making

7 weeks 

This course is suitable for students who have completed the introduction to jewellery making or have prior knowledge of jewellery making. Improve your skills and learn new techniques such as chain making, bezel and claw stone setting.

All necessary materials are supplied; you may choose to purchase extra silver in addition to these. Pease enquire if this class is suitable for your needs. 

When: daytime 9.30 - 12.30 and evenings 6pm-9pm (check the dates)

Ring Making

Design and make your own ring: 1 day - 6 hours - Beginners 

In this one-day introductory class you will learn a range of jewellery making techniques and use specialised tools to make a sterling silver ring. The class size is limited to ensure everyone gets assistance and one-on-one time. 

More Information:

I will guide you through the steps of designing and making your own sterling silver ring using techniques such as saw-piercing, annealing, hammering, forming, soldering, texturing, filing, sanding and polishing.

This introductory class is designed for beginners with no previous experience. 

All materials, tools and consumables are included in the cost.  Brass for making a practice ring and aluminium for texturing. Sterling silver for your ring will be provided.

When: Saturday the 17th of October,                                                                                        10am – 4pm Duration: One day (6 hours)

Work at your own pace on your own chosen projects

In this class I offer individual teaching for you to work on your own project. This course is suitable for students who have completed the introduction to jewellery making or have prior knowledge of jewellery making. I will guide you through the design process and how to best achieve the desired results.

More Information:

There are only 4 participants maximum. This provides the perfect environment to work on your own project plus learn about processes, techniques and possibilities by watching what the other participants are working. 

This class is suitable for participants who have completed the introductory and intermediate class or have previous experience in jewellery making. I have a professional well-equipped studio with specialized tools and equipment suitable for working on a range of projects using a variety of techniques.

When: Monday evening - 19th of October to 30th of November 6pm to 9pm.

One on One Teaching

One on one teaching

Private tuition is perfect for students who would like detailed instruction to develop and deepen existing skills. You will decide which project or techniques you would like to explore. This can include; designing, etching, advanced detailed soldering, stone setting, riveting techniques, chain making, wax work. We will work together to achieve the best outcomes for you.
